Nurses Appreciation
With nurses being on the front lines with COVID-19, our appreciation doesn't fall within a specific week. Let them know how much you appreciate them! National Nurses Week is May 6 - 12! Whether you want to show your appreciation to colleagues, friends, or to your favorite nurse or nursing staff, sending them a beautiful gift basket is the perfect way to do that! March 19 is Certified Nurses Day. National School Nurse Day is the Wednesday during the week of May 6 - 12, so May 6, for 2020. National Nurses' Week is a great time to recognize their dedication and hard working efforts. Gratitude is the prescription! A little history....Beginning in 1953, Dorothy Sutherland of the United State Dept. of Health, Education, & Welfare, sent a proposal to Pres. Eisenhower to proclaim a Nurse Day. There have been several efforts over the years to honor nurses for their care to millions of patients each day of the year. In 1982, The American Nurses Association (ANA - www.nursingworld.org) formally acknowledged May 6 as National Nurses Day. In 1990, the ANA board expanded the recognition to May 6 through May 12. Florence Nightingale’s birthday was May 12.
