The Walk for Waldenstrom’s 2022

The Walk for Waldenstrom’s 2022

Waldenström’s macroglobulinemia was first described in 1944, by a Swedish physician by the name of Jan Waldenström.  It’s also called lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma.  It’s a rare slow growing type of blood cancer that begins in the white blood cells and is a type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma.  So far, it is incurable.

Approximately 3 people out of a million, will be diagnosed each year in the United States, so that’s 1,000 to 1,500 people each year.  Survival rates were 3-5 years, but research has improved the median survival to 14-16 years.

For me, I was one of the lucky ones to tolerate the first line treatment, which was a result of all of the people that came before me to be in clinical trials and all the research that has been done over many years.  I’m hoping to get a few more years before treatments are required again!

The Walk for Waldenstrom’s 2022, is Sunday, September 18th at 10:00 a.m. (ET) to raise awareness and support for the International Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia Foundation (IWMF).  No registering required, no fees, you can do it anywhere!

Here at Bouquets That Stay, we will be donating 5% of sales from 9/1/22  - 9/18/22 to the IWMF.
