3 Ideas for Showing Employee Appreciation

Things have certainly changed in the last several months.  Your employees are trying to juggle their work and personal lives all confined within their homes, and likely with a number of family members.  They are cooped up feeling isolated and stressed. Maybe even a little depressed?  Between the Zoom meetings and everyone crossing their fingers that the screen doesn’t freeze up, there’s a lot going on. Yet with all of these distractions and emotions, your employees manage to come through for you each and every time.  They are your virtual workforce at the moment.  Showing employee appreciation isn’t just the first Friday in the month of March anymore. You know your employees are the lifeblood of your company and that you should recognize all of their hard work, but just how do you let them know how much you appreciate them?

Well, there are a number of ways to show appreciation to your employees and below are three ideas:

1.  For instance, when was the last time you got a handwritten greeting card?  Remember seeing one in your mailbox and you just couldn’t wait to see what it said and you couldn’t wait to find out who sent it?  Send them a greeting card in the mail to thank them for their efforts. Hey, they might even frame it!

2.  We know how difficult it’s been for small local restaurants during this time of covid-19.  How about sending your employees a gift card for a small locally owned restaurant?  Choosing a restaurant that offers delivery, pick up, and/or outside seating, would keep them safe and save them from having to prepare dinner or lunch for the day or maybe even a number of days.

3.  Think about the surprise and joy that they would get to have a beautiful gift basket or curated gift box, filled with great tasting treats, delivered to their home! What a great surprise!  They definitely need a reward for all of their efforts and what better way to do that than with something that is as great looking as it is tasty?!  Something for that chocolate, coffee, and or tea lover.  Celebrate a fun holiday like Halloween or say thanks during the month of Thanksgiving (November).  Wish them a happy birthday or anniversary with the company.  Maybe an aromatherapy spa basket to relieve the stress?  Or how about a gift that provides an experience, like a charcuterie board gift, where they can create their own board that is a lovely as it is good tasting and oh so enjoyable?  Beautiful gifts are a great way to show your employees just how much you appreciate them!

We don’t know how long things will be this way, but whether things stay the same or go back to normal, your staff is the lifeblood of your business and letting them know on a regular basis, just how thankful you are to have them on the team is very important. Letting them know just how much they are valued is an essential part of keeping morale up.  Showing your employees appreciation, especially during these times of the novel coronavirus, where everyone’s lives have been turned upside down, will play an important part in your company’s success.
