Our History & a bit about us personally:
As long as I can remember, I liked arts & crafts and gardening. After graduating from college and first working for a large publicly traded retail corporation and then a small private wholesale family company, I wanted to incorporate what I liked doing with having more control over my life.
It
all started in 1987, with African violets that I grew from small plants
and then planted in self-watering pots. They were sold to florists as
well as decorating them in baskets for retail sale. Other plants came
later, along with some fresh flowers added to dish gardens. After locating to a new area, it became clear that the high mineral
content in the water was just too high for African violets. Around 1992, a friend showed me an ad for a
gift basket magazine...and the rest they say is history! A few years
later, I married my true blue Dallas, Texan, who was very skilled at
technology so he kept the company up to date online, as well as helping
get orders out, and making deliveries. Over ten years ago,
he experienced an out of hospital sudden cardiac arrest, and was one of the less than 8% to survive. Unfortunately, it resulted
in global anoxic encephalopathy, or hypoxic-ischemic brain injury, where his short term memory was the most affected. Add to this mix of health issues, stage 3 chronic kidney disease and COPD. He still sometimes helps out though with entering addresses in the Garmin for deliveries, so he is still part of the team! This explains us not being quite so cutting edge when it comes to technology these days! A few years ago, I was diagnosed with Waldenström's macroglobulinemia, a rare incurable blood cancer that three out of a million people are diagnosed with in a year in the United States. Luckily, this "orphan disease" has a couple of blood cancer "cousins" where there has been more research resulting in a few therapies that can help to keep it pushed back.
It’s
been an honor serving the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) Metroplex all of
these years. To be a part of conveying the feelings between family
members, friends, and loved ones, whether it be joyful or sorrowful.
It’s great to be an extension of a company’s marketing team or human
resources department, making their jobs easier, by thanking or
remembering their customers and employees for important occasions or
events. Helping Dallas area events to be successful, is always very rewarding.
We have recently started adding the products of local & artisanal family or woman owned businesses, to our designs. And the cherry on top of it
all, is seeing people’s faces light up, because they are hoping the
beautifully handcrafted gift we’re carrying, is for them! So many
reasons to be thankful!
